The authorship should be restricted to those who should meet any of the following conditions: 1) substantial contribution to the conception and design of the study, or acquisition, interpretation and analysis of data; 2) drafting the article or revising it critically for the important intellectual content; and 3) final approval of the version to be published.
In studies of human subjects, the procedures should be in accordance with the ethical standards of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of author’s institute and with the Helsinki Declaration in 1975 (revised in 2000). In the case of animal experiments, authors should keep the institutional or national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.
When the journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct, such as redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fraudulent or fabricated data, changes in authorship, undisclosed conflict of interest, ethical problems with a submitted manuscript, appropriation by a reviewer of an author’s idea or data, and complaints against editors, the resolution process will follow the flowchart provided by the guidance of COPE (https://publicationethics.org/guidance). The discussion and decision on the suspected cases are carried out by the editorial board.
The Journal operates a Research Ethics Council for consideration of research ethics and related issues. The Research Ethics Council, chaired by the editor-in-chief, is responsible for upholding ethical standards in research published in the journal. The council investigates and reviews any issues related to ethical violations and reports the findings to the Korean Society for Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Board of Directors. Additionally, the council members promote ethical practices by educating editors and authors.
For the policies on the research and publication ethics not stated in this instruction, “Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals (https://www.kamje.or.kr/board/view?b_name=bo_publication&bo_id=13)” or the guidance of COPE (https://publicationethics.org/guidance) can be applied.
